Rome, Italy- View of the famous stone amphitheater known as the Roman Colosseum located east of the Roman Forum. Officially known as the Flavian Amphitheater, it was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian as a gift to the Roman people. Gladiatorial combats and wild animal fights were held in the Colosseum as entertainment for the people of Rome for hundreds of years.
